Hitman Rath (Stallone) is the best in the business, but gets a run for his money when Wrath (Banderas) steals one of his contracts. Stallone was assigned to kill a man, but Banderas kills the mark, a shoot out follows, Banderas is arrested, escapes, blah blah. Both men receive their assignements via laptops, but are both given the job of retrieving a computer disc, the job being worth $2 million. The disc is in the possession of Electra (Moore), a computer genius, but with both men trying to get the disc there are loads of shoot outs and lots of action.
This film was actually quite enjoyable, despite a few silly bits and unrealistic stunts. For example, at the start where Banderas takes Stallone's target at a funeral. Well Stallone is supposed to be the best hitman alive, yet his plan consisted of hiding a gun in a cast - and that's it. For a brilliant professional this plan doesn't seem to have been thought out, with no real way of escaping. Anyway, the plot is pretty much the same throughout, but then we get to the end and a dark secret from Stallone's past is revealed, but I'm not going to ruin it for you.
Assassins isn't anything special, and real movie analysts and critics will have a field day with all the unrealistic bits, but the people this is aimed at will love it - action fans. The guns are there, the violence is there, and there's nothing particularly complicated with the plot so you can enjoy it from start to finish. I thought this was a good film, and any fans of the action genre should enjoy it.
