Mr. Bean makes his big screen debut after the success of the television series. In this feature length episode, Bean is flown to Los Angeles, America, to pose as an art scholar. His job beforehand required him to act as a security guard for paintings, but he just slept on the job. But it is decided that instead of firing Bean they'll ship him off to someone else. As part of his new job he must deliver a speech about a famous painting, the "Whistler's Mother", that has just been purchased by an amry general (Reynolds).

His stay in the states is with the family of David Langley (Peter MacNicol), the gallery director. While there he annoys everyone to the point of the wife leaving with the kids until Bean leaves. The whole film is about Bean getting into trouble and creating havoc from the most simple of situations.

Fans of the series are not guaranteed to enjoy this one I am sorry to say. I myself enjoyed a few of the TV episodes, but felt this was a poor adaption and the over-the-top antics didn't make me laugh but got on my nerves. The whole film is just the recycling of old jokes, and to poor effect. Although older viewers will just be waiting for the film to end, younger children will probably want to watch it again as soon as it finishes.
