After three years in a California prison, Jesse (Luke Wilson) is ready to marry his girlfriend Hope (Drew Barrymore) in the town of Independence. Joining Jesse for the wedding are some of his criminal friends; ex-Green-Beret Buzz (Dean Cain); ex-lawyer Sol (Mitchell Whitfield); geeky Teddy (Andy Dick); and Shakespeare-quoting Billy (Sean Patrick Flanery), aka Hamlet on the FBI's most-wanted list. They stop off at a bank at the request of Billy, and as it turns out he's about to pull of another Hamlet robbery. The others go inside to see what's going on, and find themselves invloved in the hesit and so now they're all in trouble.
Billy's dad is the town sheriff and tries to negotiate, but then the media arrives along with some strange FBI agents, and then the bride-to-be Hope. The robbers are soon looked at as the good guys, with the hostages taking their side and locals gathering outside offering their vocal support. The friends have to figure out a way of getting out of the bank and to the wedding, but it won't be easy.
From the trailer I thought this was going to be an action-packed and funny movie. I was dissapointed. The film was very boring, and nothing new or original happened and I am getting tired of the same old 'hold up' films. No performances stand out, but Andy Dick's Teddy livens it up a little, but doesn't make it any more funny. A film like this classes itself as comedy, but a 'bank robbery gone wrong' comedy should not have so much adult orientated material, as this rules it out as a family film which is the perfect audience. There was too much swearing and sexual talk, and it just didn't seem to fit in with the film. If this had been more violent it would have been depressing, but we were spared that much. Maybe I misjudged this film and was in a bad mood when I saw it, so I'll give it another go but my first viewing was less tha entertaining.
