Jeff Lebowski (Bridges) is known to most people simply as "The Dude", and his life consists of bowling with his friends (Goodman and Buscemi) financed by his unemployment checks. One day The Dude returns to his dirty LA bungalow and two men break in, rough him up and urinate on his rug. The reason? - they have mistaken him for millionaire Jeffrey Lebowski, whose wife owes them a lot of money.

The Dude looks up his rich namesake and pays him a visit, meets the sexy young wife Bunny, and takes a replacement rug. Later on the Dude is called by the Big Lebowski to deliver the ransom money for the return of his kidnapped wife. However, his friend Walter (Goodman) takes it upon himself to interfere, the drop off goes wrong, and the film is all about how they get out of such situations.

This was a very clever, very funny, and very enjoyable film. It's not really about the plot (which is clever anyway) but really about the characters, the witty dialogue, and the predicaments they get into. The storyline flows smoothly and is easy to watch, and each scene is equally as watchable as the last. Jeff Bridges gives a really good performance, and it is a shame that he is not given enough credit for his performances not just in this but other work. John Goodman is good as usual, and reliable Steve Buscemi provides a lot of laughs.

Obviously this will be compared to Coen Brother's Fargo, and in my opinion is just as good, with a clever plot with unpredictable twists and turns, plus this has the bonus of being very funny. Coen fans will enjoy it, as will anyone who appreciates dark comedies. Although about crime, it is more about the comedy and the clever script and great characters. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good laugh or just any good film. Great entertainment.
