Sigourney Weaver plays a psychiatrist who's an expert on serial killers, but a past experience causes her to become agoraphobic, so she's confined to her apartment and refuses to leave it. Just over a year ago after giving a lecture on serial killers, Weaver is attacked in the bathroom by a killer, and only just survives. Now back in the present we learn that a new serial killer is striking, and Weaver's character recognises some similarities between the new killings and old ones. The police are sceptical at first, but soon she is the best lead they have, but the killer himself knows about her and plans to give her a visit.

Similarities will be made to dark, grisly films such as Seven, but Copycat is not just a copycat of Seven, it is a very good individual film. Although it doesn't go for the gore factor, it is a very well made movie full of suspense and creepy scenes. The acting is on top form, and the script provides us with an interesting plot full of twists and turns. The copycat killer is not revealed to us until midway through the film, but it's not a "guess the killer" film, it's all about "who will survive?" really, with Weaver's character being the main target because of her knowledge of the field, assisting the police, and the attack a year ago that interests the killer for some reason. Copycat is a really good film, and I'd recommend it to any fans of the genre. As mentioned earlier it's not a particularly violent film, it's a quality thriller that you should enjoy, although I'm not sure 'enjoy' is really the world to describe such a film. But any fans of the genre should enjoy it, if 'enjoy' is the right word for such a film.
